Pastoral Visit of Fr. Joachim (Parr)

Dear brothers and sisters!

We'd like to welcome everyone to share in the joy of fellowship with our Elder, Father Joachim, the abbot of the monastery of St. Mary of Egypt in New York, under whose auspices our parish (Our Lady of Kazan Russian Orthodox Church) operates. Archimandrite Joachim (Parr) is very well known, not only in Orthodox circles in America, but also in Russia, to where, over the course of many years, he has been invited to address the faithful in parish churches and monasteries alike. To find out more about him and the monastery he founded, please visit http://mercyhousenyc.org/ (English) or https://www.facebook.com/mercyhousenyc (Russian). For us, and for all the Orthodox in Spokane, Fr. Joachim's visit is a very significant event. There are many recordings and videos of Fr. Joachim's talks in the US and Russia to be found on the Internet (Just do a search for "Архимандрит Иоаким (Парр)"  or "Father Joachim Parr."), but of course there is something special about live and personal interaction. Fr. Joachim will be hearing confessions during the service times and there will be an opportunity to ask any questions of him during the meeting (details below).

The main event will happen on the first Sunday of Great Lent, March 24. On this day, Fr. Joachim will serve the Divine Liturgy at our parish of Our Lady of Kazan (3018 E. Olympic Ave #1, Spokane WA 99217), which begins at 9:30 AM. For those who wish to give their confession and receive Holy Eucharist, please come early (Confessions will start at 8:30 AM). For those who would like to give their confession to the Elder, Fr. Joachim will be hearing confessions the previous evening, during the All-Night Vigil, which usually starts around 5:00 PM.

After the Divine Liturgy on Sunday (March 24), we'll all be going to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (1703 N. Washington, Spokane WA 99205), where we have kindly been invited to share in their Agape Meal and have a meet-and-greet with Fr. Joachim. Lunch will start around 12:15 PM. At around 1:00 PM, we'll head up to the meeting hall, where Fr. Joachim will give a short address. Afterwards, there'll  be a time of fellowship and personal interaction with the Elder. There will also be an opportunity to ask Fr. Joachim any questions you might have.

We strongly encourage anyone who is interested in the founding of the first Russian Orthodox parish in Spokane to spend the day with us. Fr. Joachim, by the blessing of Archbishop JUSTINIAN, is the direct head of our mission, and we'll definitely be discussing this theme. We also invite members of our parish to come on Saturday, March 23, when, during a meeting after the Liturgy, we'll be exploring with Fr. Joachim the possible acquisition of land for the building of our future temple and other related topics.

In Christ,

Priestmonk Dimitrian
